Volker Wissing, the German Minister of Transport stated at a recent meeting of EU Transport ministers in Paris (Feb 2022) that:
"We want combustion engines to remain an option, if they run exclusively on synthetic fuels. We cannot rely on only electric and hydrogen mobility for the future. We need to remain technology-agnostic."
This suggests that Germany may be backing away for their previous support for an EU wide ban on new combustion engine vehicles by 2035. While discussion of this proposed ban is still ongoing in Europe, the UK has already enacted such a ban.
